Edward Barton and Guests – Live at The Yard, Manchester
Later@ are proud to host their first Manchester event at The Yard, Cheetham Hill – a unique independent venue for music, arts and community – with a night of live music, poetry and collaboration led by Manchester cult icon Edward Barton.
For this special one-off evening, Barton presents Out of the House with Edward, joined by Jane, Bbird With Two B’s, and an array of surprise guests.
One of the highlights of the night will be Jane’s first a cappella performance of It’s a Fine Day since 1982. Originally written by Barton, the track became an international hit for Opus III, was famously sampled by Orbital, and remains one of Manchester’s most enduring underground songs. Hearing it stripped back in its raw original form is a rare opportunity for fans of Manchester music history.
The show will also debut Barton’s new project Your Song, My Song, where he co-writes with musicians, singers and writers, premiering fresh collaborations live on stage.
About Edward Barton
Poet, songwriter and producer Edward Barton first gained attention in the 1980s with his haunting ballad It’s a Fine Day. Over the years, his eccentric performances and unique lyricism have led to collaborations with A Guy Called Gerald, 808 State, Kylie Minogue and Lost Witness. Barton recently appeared with The Man From Delmonte at their sold-out reunion – this Yard show marks his long-awaited return as a headliner.
About Jane & It’s a Fine Day
Jane’s a cappella version of It’s a Fine Day first captivated audiences in the early ’80s when she performed alongside Barton. From its underground roots, the song grew into a global classic thanks to Opus III and Orbital. This performance marks the first time Jane has revisited the original live in over four decades.
About Bbird With Two B’s
Manchester’s own Bbird With Two B’s bring eccentric charm and heartfelt songwriting. Their debut single Hey! Hey! Herne Bay was championed on BBC 6 Music by Gideon Coe and Stuart Maconie, while their latest release Slow Train Over the Pennines – written by Barton – offers an achingly beautiful tale of love and longing. With Cagsy Mason’s striking vocals and Tom Goodwin’s arrangements, the band bring a fresh yet nostalgic sound to the stage.
This event also launches later@’s campaign Book Early, Keep It Live – supporting grassroots artists and independent venues by encouraging audiences to secure tickets in advance.
